A Novice's First Lesson

Fayth enters the park slowly, her eyes flitting around, searching. When she spots Disa Sedai, an enormous smile erupts on her face and she curtseys deep. "Greetings, Disa Sedai, I hope this day finds you well?"

Disa returns the smile with her whole heart "The day finds me well novice. No chores today? That hardly seems like my novice days...or course I'm sure your more obedient than I was" a knowing look appears in her eyes making them twinkle

Fayth giggles, and makes her face look as innocent as possible. "Of course I am very obedient, Disa Sedai. I would never break any rules, or get into any trouble." she covers her mouth to hide her grin, and her eyes sparkle mischievously. "However, I have already finished my morning chores. I was in a bit of hurry; I didn't want to be late for today's lesson." She smiles gratefully.

Disa laughs softly "A bold faced lie if ever I heard one, but I believe I'll let that pass this time. Now novice, embrace Saidar if you are able." she allow herself to open to the saidar as well the glow springing up bright around her to all women who are able to channel.

Fayth giggles again and nods, closing her eyes. She drops her arms down to her sides, and her face softens into a gentle, relaxed state. For those women with the ability to channel, a soft, golden glow suddenly surrounds Fayth, and she opens her eyes, looking at Disa Sedai expectantly.

Disa smiles "Now Fayth do not be afraid for what I am about to do may startle you." deftly she weaves out two separate flows of air and wraps them around the girl a few times first very loosely and then tighter binding the girls arms at her sides holding her still, tight but not so tight that they restrict breath or speech. "Do you see how I have done this?"

Fayth watches intently, concentrating hard on exactly what Disa is doing. Her eyes widen with alarm when her arms are pinned, but she does not struggle. Instead, she peers at the weaves very closely, apparently trying to memorize their exact state. After a few moments, she looks back at Disa Sedai and nods. "Yes, Disa Sedai, I believe I see what you have done..."

Disa smiles "With this weave you can immobilize the strongest man though I caution you only to use it when instructed by a sister or accepted or if your life is in grave danger, you are not far enough along in your training to use the one power with out proper supervision." with a smile she releases the weave letting the girls arms fall free. "Now I want you to try the same thing on me."

Fayth nods again, her face intent with concentration. She stares in the direction of Disa Sedai's arms for a moment, then humms softly under her breath. One small, thin band of air heads toward Disa, followed by another equally small, thin band. It takes her a moment, but eventually she gets them wrapped around Disa Sedai, though not very tightly.

Disa pushes slightly against the bands of air feeling them hold her arms though not tightly. "Good Fayth very good, your progress is going wonderfully, now can you tighten these slightly?"

Her eyebrows furrowed with concentration, Fayth stares at the bands. Her eyes narrow and the weaves tighten just a bit, very slowly. (Fayth)

Disa smiles "Good very good, you may release the weave now novice and once you have done that I want you to lift that pebble." she nods to a pebble sitting close to them.

Fayth releases the weave with a sloppy sort of haste, and then moves her eyes to the rock. "All right, let's try this again. Come on, Fayth, you can do this..." she mutters under her breath. Threads of air wrap around the rock, much the same way they wrapped around Disa Sedai's arms. Her eyes narrow again, and the rock slowly rises from the ground, perhaps a few centimeters.

Disa smiles broadly "Wonderful fayth simply wonderful you may lower it again."

Fayth lowers the rock, and sighs, her eyes twinkling with excitement. She claps her hands with delight and beams at Disa.

Disa laughs softly "So tell me what do you think of it so far?"

Fayth continues to beam at Disa, and she exclaims "Oh, Disa Sedai, it is wonderful! I feel so...alive...when I'm...and it's just...well, it's fantastic. I'm so glad I was found and brought here, Disa Sedai. So glad..." She stops, and shakes her head, eyes filling with tears of happiness.

Disa laughs softly "Fayth I admire your enthusiasm, you've so much to learn but I believe you have it in you to make a wonderful Aes Sedai. Come sit with me for a time, I like to get to know those I teach outside of the role of student at teacher. So for now call me Disa, I know it's unusual but trust me I believe you will be better for it, anything on your mind any questions anything now is the time to ask it there will be no punishments for anything said and no one else will know."

Fayth grins, and kneels down next to Disa. "Thank you, Disa Sed...err Disa." She folds her legs under her and makes herself comfortable. "Are all Sedai as kind as you, Disa Se...Disa? I must admit, I've only met two others, and they all seemed rather..." She hesitates, and looks fearful for a moment. Then she leans in closer. "...stern..."

Disa smiles "Most of my sisters seem to want to forget whatever they were before they gained the shawl, and perhaps in public that is right and well, we must be Aes Sedai now more than ever, we cannot have anyone, not the nobles, not the Asha'man and especially not the people thinking we are weak and in doing so go over to the usurpers in the White tower. But in private...well I was born a farmers daughter and later became a street rat and part of me will always remain so. I fear some of my sisters have in forgetting their past lives forgotten how to laugh, how to be human. But there are still a few of us who remember, Fayth."

Fayth nods, and sighs, looking very sad. "I hope I never forget what it's like to laugh..." She shakes her head. "That would be most awful."

Disa smiles sadness banished as she pulls something from her pouch "I have not forgotten how to bake either, light but it is hard to get into those kitchens without being noticed." from her pouch she takes four small cookies round in shape with what seems to be a jelly or jam in the middle and hands two to the novice they are still slightly warm and fill the glade with their scent.

Fayth grins at Disa, and takes a small, timid bite of the first cookie. She chews and swallows, then says to Disa, "My mother used to bake every day." she smiles sadly and her eyes take on a faraway look for a moment. Then she suddenly shakes herself and grins at Disa. "She never taught me, though I begged her to often enough. I'm a bit clumsy in the kitchen..." she giggles, and takes another bite.

Disa returns her grin "Well the novice perhaps if time can be found in your busy schedule you would like to learn? Most sisters look down on such things as acts that servants should do" here she shakes her head "the term Aes Sedai is translated as servants of all and besides, some tasks like baking are enjoyable."

Fayth gasps and stares at Disa, disbelief evident on her face. "Really? You would...teach me? That would be wonderful, Disa Sedai, just wonderful!!" She laughs with delight, and claps her hands again. She suddenly becomes very serious, as she looks at Disa, undying gratitude plainly evident on her face. "Thank you, Disa Sedai. Again, I must thank you. You have been most kind to me."

Disa laughs in joy at the girls enthusiasm "Fayth those of the tower are your family as much as this place is your home, I would be happy to teach you how to bake, sew, or any other task that I know how to perform. I am here not only to be your instructor in the one power, but also your friend. What I have offered you is what I would offer all students if given the chance."

A smile spreading slowly over her face, and growing to enormous proportions, Fayth giggles "I'm afraid I don't know how to do many chores around the house...although I seem to be getting much better at scrubbing pots!" (Fayth)

Disa let's out a soft groan "I think some of those pots are Ter'angreal that we don't know about...novice's go in and never return...goodness knows I scrubbed everyone of them in my time"

Fayth takes another bite of her cookie and nods at Disa. "Yeah, some of us think that the tower hires people to do nothing more than dirty pots...I just don't know how on earth so many pots can get so dirty in so little time!" She shakes her head and mutters under her breath, then takes another bite. "These really are excellent, thank you." She grins at Disa.

Disa laughs softly at the novice comment "Well Fayth I'm afraid you're going to have to be locked away...you've discovered our dark secret you see there is no true rift in the tower it's just all the novices are being sent to our dirty pot factory" She looks around after saying this as if sensing something or someone before turning back to the novice with a smile "I believe child that we may have company coming"

Fayth whirls around, her eyes searching. Not seeing anyone, she turns back to Disa, her expression confused. She raises an eyebrow questioningly. "Really? Okay..." She coughs. "I mean...okay, Disa Sedai." She corrects herself.

Disa smiles "I told you Fayth in private you may call me Disa, drop the title for now, it is nice once in awhile to talk to someone without pomp and circumstance clouding the conversation. But tell me, have you decided in any way what Ajah you will choose?"

Fayth sighs. "Well, I have been thinking about what you told me before about all the

ajahs. I think I have narrowed it down to three, although I'm leaning more toward one of them...I can't decide if I want to be blue, green, or yellow. I would love to heal, so I'm leaning more toward that ajah. But I can't decide..." She sighs again, and shrugs. "Is there a particular ajah you think would be best for me?"

Disa lets a grin bloom across her ageless face "Child for me to answer that question with any ajah but blue would make me seem foolish. But I believe fayth whatever Ajah you choose you will flourish in it. You still have much time to make a final decision and you may find that in time your choices flip completely. The wheel weaves as it wills."

Fayth nods and folds her hands in her lap, a pensive look on her face. She looks as though she is thinking very hard, as her eyebrows are furrowed and her lips are moving silently. Finally, she shrugs, and grins at Disa. "I -do- have quite a while to think about it, so perhaps I shouldn't fret too much yet..."

Disa allows the saidar to flow into her a glow springing up around her for all who may see it, however just as suddenly she pushes it away the glow disappearing as if it had been done on impulse "You have plenty of time fayth, I hope that you will allow me to aid you in your choice when the time comes. And if I am given the chance I would love to teach you healing."

Fayth positively beams at this, and again claps her hands with delight. "I would be honored if you would aid me. And if you taught me healing...I would be forever in your debt."

Disa laughs softly resisting the impulse to look around and retaining composure. "You would not be in my debt fayth I am your teacher as well as your friend and that would serve both roles. There is someone coming I would like you to meet...she is very special to me and I hope that you will treat her with the friendship you have shown me."

A soft chuckle emanates from the trees at the edge of the park.  A slim young woman with a fighter's build strides out, her color-shifting cloak flapping around her ankles.  She approaches the two, a wide grin on her pale face, and bows fluidly to the Aes Sedai.  "Disa Sedai..."  A querying look in her silver-gray eyes, she waits for a response, almost seeming not to notice the young Novice standing there.  (Kitai) (Kitai)

Fayth nods at Disa and smiles. "Of course!" she says, then, hearing the chuckle, she turns to the newcomer. She stands immediately, and curtsies, but says nothing, not wanting to interrupt.

Disa smiles managing to resist the impulse of running to embrace the newcomer "Kitai Gaidin....it has been far too long" Joy is apparent in her words as she looks into the eyes of the other woman tears twinkling in her blue eyes before being pushed back. "I trust your journey went well? Fayth this is Kitai...my Gaidin and my love." she let the girl assimilate this new development not that her love of Kitai was much of a secret around Salidar any longer.

Kitai smiles wryly, nodding her head in acknowledgement of the girl.  "Aye, indeed it has, m'love.  Those bumpkins are more difficult to deal with then I remembered...but it's no great thing.  I'm back now...just returned in fact, haven't even reported to the Master at Arms yet.  I had to see you..." She trails off, a look of longing lingering in her eyes for a moment before she shrugs.  "And hello, Fayth, it's good to meet you, though I daresay my Bonded has sprung a surprise on you..." she chuckles softly.  "Most know of it already, but you probably didn't."  She shrugs again, then throws her cloak back over her shoulder, revealing a dusty, travel-stained dress over a lean frame.

Fayth looks a bit confused for a moment, then shrugs and beams at Kitai. "Hello, Kitai, it is wonderful to meet you! Disa Sedai has been a great help to me, although the subject of gaidin didn't really come up. I had no idea she was bonded." She curtsies to her again, then moves back a few steps. "I imagine the two of you have a bit of catching up to do?" Her eyebrows are raised in question. "In which case, if you would like me to leave, I'm sure I can find some pots to scrub somewhere..." She giggles at her little joke.

Disa laughs softly "No doubt there would be pots aplenty for you to scrub but there is no reason for you to be running off just yet. And fayth I've no problem with you addressing me without title in private,  nor I believe does my bonded but you must remember to give the Gaidin proper respect in public." here she offers a mischievous smile "You may kick them around when you gain the shawl after you have bonded."

Kitai glares facetiously at her bonded for a long moment, then draws herself up with quiet dignity.  "Just because you got me into a dress, Aes Sedai, that does NOT mean you can kick me around...or do I need to give you another lesson in horsemanship?"  One eyebrow arced slightly, she smirks a moment, as though over a private joke, before turning her attention back to the Novice.  "She's right though...I'd not insist here, but in public, you must address me as Gaidin...out of respect, if nothing else."  Still smiling, she pats the young girl on the shoulder as if to let her know that nothing negative was meant.

Her face flushed, Fayth turns to Kitai and curtsies once again. "My apologies, Gaidin Kitai, I'm afraid I am still learning all the rules. That's why I am so lucky to have Disa Sedai to help me." She sends a grateful smile Disa's way, then turns back to Kitai. "Again, I apologize." (Fayth)

Disa turns to the Gaidin a wicked smile crossing her features "I've grown more adept at riding while you were away warder, let us see who cries out first, myself after a morning ride or you in the pink dress with lace for the evening ball? If it's myself I'll eat my shawl." here she turns back to the novice "Keep them in line when you can or they'll pull you hither and all over the place."

Kitai laughs softly, a twinkle in her silver-gray eyes.  "Ahh, yes, Aes Sedai...to each their own craft, I suppose.  Though I rather think you'd cry at being defended by a woman in a frilly pink dress...it might embarrass you, if nothing else..." She sighs wearily, then, and only now seems to notice the travel dirt on her clothing.  "I nearly ruined this dress trying to get back quickly, though...And I still have yet to talk to the Master...." She trails off, looking questioningly at her bonded.

Fayth giggles, then covers her mouth almost immediately, flushing with embarrassment. She says nothing, though her eyes dance with amusement, and a bit of shock.

Disa laughs again "I don't believe I would cry at having you near no matter your attire. I believe some of your more comfortable breeches are still where you left them if you'd like to go change." grasping the source she weaves out a flow of air to gently touch the womans cheek before firmly and forcefully pinching her backside "And that is for your riding threat" again she smiles broadly "You see fayth, there is one thing that can be used to keep them in line that they cannot argue with...well at least not in public" her cheeks blush slightly at this.

Kitai laughs loudly.  "Ahh, Disa...I've missed you.  And not all Gaidin are so easily swayed by the wiles of their Bonds..." She trails off, a light smirk still in place, though her silvery eyes look tired.  "I wouldn't mind the change...are you going to be at this for long?  I'd thought we might catch up after I confer with the Master at Arms and spend some time resting...."

Disa shakes her head "No I believe we were done with our lesson for today; Fayth and I were just discussing various things. I do mean what I said fayth- if you need anything or have any questions seek me out."

Fayth giggles again, and doesn't bother covering her mouth this time. She looks at Disa and curtsies. "Disa Sedai, I thank you for your lesson, and I look forward to our next meeting." She sends her a mischievous grin, and then turns to Kitai. "Gaidin Kitai, it was an honor to meet you, and I also hope we can meet again in the future. Now, however, I believe I have some pots to scrub." She chuckles, and curtsies to Kitai, before turning and making her way out of the clearing. "Thanks again, Disa Sedai!" she says over her shoulder, waving.
