Rain pounds against the windows in sheets as a storm rages over the city of
Caemlyn. The hearth in the Half Moon is lit and full of flames, fighting (and succeeding) to
keep the common room of the inn warm and cozy. The normally large dinner crowd
is absent this evening due to the weather, though the room is about a quarter full.
Kasim is sitting in a stuffed armchair by the fireplace. He is without armor and instead wearing a white doublet and tunic over his normal clothes (see desc). A thin, curved longsword is the only possession the man has in the open, across his
lap as he faces the fire.
[RP] Pushing open the door a slender woman enters the room a man almost right
on her heels. Pushing back the hood of her cloak Ceara shake her head slowly for a moment. Looking over her shoulder she nods
once towards the man before moving towards the back of the room, to occupy one of the corner tables. Reaching the table she
pulls out the chair against the wall and takes a seat as she scans the room. (Ceara)
[RP] Adraleq strolls nonchanlantly into the common room, leading a rather large
cat by a leash. Both are dripping wet, having just come in from outside. He spots himself a seat, a table near the fireplace,
and he seats himself without taking off his soaking wet coat. The cat immediately starts licking itself, as cats are prone
to doing.
[RP] Templan - following directly behind the Ceara - Intakes the room, as he
enters. Noting the Man at the Fire-Place carefully, and touching his sword-hilt instictively, moved to the table and pulled
out a chair for Ceara. Waiting for her to seat herself.
[RP] The door opens again, this time to let in a sopping-wet child, who turns
and shuts the door, making sure it is latched well before stepping away. Turning round to step a few feet in, out of reach
of the door, and looks at the room. Miraequin licks her lips, then shakes herself off - sending water droplets flying for
at least four feet around her. Running a hand through her stringy, dripping hair, she sighs and moseys over to the fireplace
in an attempt to warm up and dry off. (Miraequin)
[RP] The door opens quickly almost slamming into the wall but is caught and
gently closed. Jaton gives a shy grin to the patrons, while trying to brush off his drenched clothes. Sliding into one of the barstools he slides a silver to the bartender and orders himself a drink. (Jaton)
[RP] Kasim looks up as the rain drives so many people in to the building in
such a short space of time, taking each person in carefully. His eyes linger
on the woman and her companion longer than usual, and he lets out a quiet, derisive snort.
He looks at the child approaching him with something like concern on his face, but it passes quickly. He takes a sip from a cup of steaming something and goes back to his fire watching.
[RP] Ceara sighs softly as she nods briefly at Templan, though she turns away
from him for a moment as all the newcomers come into the room. Watching as Miraequin comes in a brief smile touches her lips
as she notices teh little girl. though none of the others she seems to know. As she glances around the room her gaze spots
Kasim and rests on him for a moment longer then anyone else. Turning towards templan she arches an eyebrow slowly, before
letting her gaze fall back onto Kasim.
[RP] Arden pauses, just the other
side of the open door to the sitting room, and cranes his neck to look around the front of the Inn,
seeming slightly suprised to see so many folks out and about in the weather. He
reaches up and thoughtfully scratches his neck, looking indecisive for a moment before shrugging it off, and slipping through
the doorway and claiming an empty table at the back of the room for his own.
[RP] Adraleq reaches into a pocket and fishes out a piece of meat, which he
tosses to the cat. The feline temporarily ceases its cleaning to lean over and sniff delicately at the meat. The morsel is
apparently unpalatable because the cat promomptly ignores it, choosing instead to hiss at Miraequin as hse passes by. This
elicis a grunt from Adraleq at the cat.
[RP] Templan keeps his gaze on the man in the Chair and his left hand on his
sword-hilt. Noticing Miraequin he gave a smile a wink before there-after returning to the item at hand. pushing the Chair
back in, he stood directly to the side of Ceara.
[RP] Miraequin jumps at the sudden hiss coming from nearby, giving a small
shriek as she whirls to face its source and backs up quickly. Keeping her hands out behind her, she keeps backing up slowly,
eyes fixed on the unfriendly feline, and stops when her hands bump up against an armchair set beside the fireplace.
[RP] Jaton grins to himself as he is served something warm to drink. He watches
the man try to feed the cat and the following exchange, shrugging he sips his mug emitting a satisfied sigh. Swinging his stool around he leaves his place at the bar. He walks over and takes a seat in one of the
empty chairs near the warmth of the fire.
[RP] Kasim looks over as Miraequin as backs into his chair, a small look of
curiosity on his face. "Can I help you, child?" he asks as she collides with
his chair. He turns back around to look at the couple that keeps staring at him,
shooting the man a challenging stare.
[RP] Ceara watches the exchange between the child and the cat a small smile
playing on her lips as she watches teh child for a moment. Standing from her chair she glances at Templan for a moment before
walking over towards the man and Miraequin. As she reaches teh table she ignores teh man for a moment kneeling nextto the
child, "Why hello there...how are you on this rainy evening." As she smiles at the child she waits for the girl to answer
before bringing her gaze back to the man, her eyes watching him for a moment, "Sir..."
[RP] Arden settles into his chair,
taking a moment and adjusting his sword to hang comfortably at his side before he raises a hand and summons over a serving
girl, whispering a few words into her ear before sending her on her way with a few coins.
He looks around the room again, and his attention seems to be drawn to Adraleq's rather out of place feline companion,
which he watches curiously for a moment, before turning his attention elsewhere. He
narrows his eyes thoughtfully as he follows Kasim's gaze over to Ceara and Templan, observing carefully as the woman crosses
over to Miraequin.
[RP] Templan walks closely behind Ceara, his right hand on his sword, ready
to draw at the faintest sign of an attack. Templan had know way of knowing how talented this man was, but calculating the
odds, two trained fighters, one with Armour, one without, it seemed like a slaughter in his mind. No challenge at all. But
Dehson told him never to underestimate, so he didnt make that mistake. After all, it would only get bloody if the man did
something Templan denoted "Hostile".
[RP] Miraequin gasps, whirling around again towards a startling noise. Facing
the man in the armchair she bumped into, she stammers something like an apology, cheeks turning a bright pink. "I, uh... the...
that cat... I don't know..." Blinking, she looks over to where he glares, a small
smile of recognition that grows as the woman approaches her. "Hello, m'lady! I'm..." she looks down at herself and shrugs.
"I'm wet."
[RP] Kasim looks up as the Aes Sedai and Templan cross to him, watching them
carefully. Looking at Templan in the eye, he says, "I'd take that hand off your
sword, son, before you get yourself hurt in some way that your Aes Sedai here can't fix."
He looks at the woman and her companion as he speaks very quietly, waiting for surprise on their faces. "I've never seen a man cling to a woman like that who wasn't her Gaidin.
New blood, by the look of you. Ill
trained, by the way you walk." He finishes sizing up Templan before looking back
to Ceara. "Can I help you?"
[RP] Ceara watches the man for a moment, her eyes never leaving the man as
she speaks softly to templan, "Relax..." Speakign now towards the man she shakes her head slowly, "You can help me yes, by
telling me why i sense Saidar on your being..." As if the answer is little concern to her she turns back towards the girl,
"So you are child, would you care for something to eat or drink..." Smiling warmly at the girl she beckons for a servng girl
with her free hand.
[RP] Kasim looks up at Ceara calmly.
When she turns away without waiting for an answer he shrugs and ignores the question, going back to looking at the
fire before him. He takes a long swig of his drink before setting the empty glass
on a small table next to him.
[RP] Ceara turning away from the child as the serving girl comes and takes
her away she turns back towads the man. "Are you going to answer or just sit there...sir." Watching him for a moment longer
she takes a step closer to him but then stops.
[RP] Kasim looks back to the woman. "Well,
simple politeness would dictate that you look at me as you wait for my answer. But
sometimes Aes Sedai are much too busy for politeness. As for my personal property,
I honestly can't see how it concerns you. If I were you, I'd be more concerned
with getting your shawl and ring on than what I might have on my person. This
Lord Dragon fellow and his men won't be happy if they find out the laws are being broken in his city."
[RP] Arden reaches up and scratches
idly at the side of his nose, still intent upon the rather unusual interaction between Kasim and Ceara. He glances aside as the serving girl brings him something to drink in a plain pewter goblet. He stops the maid with a quick tug at her sleeve, and leans over whispering something in her ear again,
pausing this time to nod significantly towards the trio at the fireplace. The
maid glances up with wide eyes, taking a coin from Arden's hand and nodding hurriedly, before she scurries off into the kitchen
without so much as a glance at the coin.
[RP] Ceara watches him for amoment, "The child was not only wet and cold but
hungry as well, do you wish for me to ignore that while I listen to an answer while facing you, when i can as easy listen
while trying to get her warm and feed. Are you so cold hearted that you would let a child go cold and hungry." Sighing softly
she reaches behind her neck to unclasp the necklace she now wears. Removing it from her neck she continues to watch him as
she slides her ring from the thin golden chain, before placing it on the second finger of her left hand. Before replacing
the necklace once shes done placing her ring on her finger.
[RP] Kasim snickers as she puts on the ring, amusement in his eyes. "Halfway there. But you still need the shawl." He picks up his empty drink and looks at it, frowning, summoning a barmaid.
"Well, is there anything else I can do for you?" When the barmaid comes
over, he hands her the mug and quietly requests another, handing her a few coppers.
[RP] Arden turns back towards Kasim
and Ceara, adjusting his position in his chair, and then adjusting the chair in turn, pulling it closer to the table. He takes his goblet in hand and brings it to his lips, tilting it up for a lazy sip. His casual manner, however, is belied by his intent gaze, which never wavers.
[RP] Ceara ignores his remark as she watches him calmly, "Yes I believe you
can answer my first question. Or is that really to much for you to do. To answer such a simple question..." Eyes intent on
him now she ignores her gaidin and everyone else in the room, now that the child is taken care of.
[RP] Kasim thinks for a moment, a long moment.
It's not until the barmaid returns with his drink, and he sips the steaming beverage, that he answers. "Well, you see, I don't think I can. Again, you haven't told
me why it's your business what items I have on my person. Aes Sedai have a penchant
for being too inquisitive, and I've learned it's good to remind you women that sometimes minding your own business is a virtue."
[RP] Arden bites his lip, restraining
some more obvious display of his amusement. He hurriedly takes another sip from
his goblet, and when he sets it aside, his expression is quite composed. He finally
averts his eyes from the pair, apparently becoming engrossed in an examination of the seemingly ordinary fireplace, instead.
[RP] Ceara arches an eyebrow, "Us women, you men have no reason to remind an
Aes Sedai of anything. However you tell me to mind my own business but when a male has Saidar coming from his person i do
believe it is my business, as it woul dbe an Aes Sedai's business."
[RP] Kasim continues speaking lazily, watching the fire and drinking what must
be mulled wine. "Well, it seems we're at an impasse, ma'am. You see, you obviously feel that it's very important that you learn why I have a certain item about my
person. I, on the other hand, feel that it's very important for you and your
pet dog to take your seats and leave me be. Unless you wish to try to rob me?" His eyes flash, and the excitement in his voice clearly indicates he hopes for the
latter.
[RP] Arden's lip quivers slightly,
and his brow lowers a bare fraction, but aside from the tiny variations in his expression, he seems to be simply staring off
into space, his eyes looking distinctly glazed. He takes another slow distracted
sip of wine, and then sets aside the goblet, his fingers momentarily twitching with nervous energy.
[RP] Ceara watches you for a moment
before speaking in a soft voice, "You will have you wish this time, for I have business elsewhere. However I will find out
what you are hiding from me." Turning on her heels she walks slowly outthe door. Not waiting to see what the man has to say
or what he will do.
[RP] Kasim watches as the woman goes, watching her leave with a look of amusement
and triumph on his face. Once she leaves the building, he pulls small item out
of his pocket, a ring, flips it into the air and catches it before slipping it on. He
takes a long chug of his drink, grinning.
[RP] Arden comes to his feet as
Templan trails Ceara out through the door, walking hurriedly over to the front of the Inn, where a
rather out of breath looking young fellow in the uniform of the Queen's Guard practically runs into him. Arden grabs the lad and drags him out through the door, eliciting
a startled yelp. A moment later, Arden
walks back into the room, and lets out an explosive breath, looking slightly shaken.
As though suddenly remembering the third man, he looks over at Kasim, and narrows his eyes.
[RP] Kasim looks up at the sudden commotion, looking confused but still elated. He watches curiously as Arden moves, and
he stands up to walk towards the man closely. He moves the sword from his lap
and sets it on the chair he just left. As he gets close to Arden,
he dips into a short bow. "Evening, sir.
How are you?"
[RP] Arden arches an intrigued
eyebrow. "Quite well. I am Lord
Arden Torhild, at your service." He executes a short, but nonetheless elegant
bow, bracing one hand against the base of his scabbarded sword, and sweeping the other before him in a suitably restrained
gesture. "And feeling fine, thank you for asking."
[RP] Kasim nods at the man who obviously outranks him socially, and stands
back a bit. "I am terribly sorry for causing that sort of commotion, sir. I daresay you are a member of the guard?" He
looks back and forth between Arden and the uniformed Guard, nodding. "It was
not my intention to cause trouble in your fine city."
[RP] Arden smiles, and shrugs. "You seem well-acquainted with our laws, so I trust that there's no need for an apology." His lip twitches slightly, "In truth, I was rather enjoying your exchange with the
Aes Sedai..." He tilts his head to the side, looking inquisitive. "An... acquaintance of yours?"
[RP] Kasim chuckles, and nods. "Well,
I've had quite a bit of time to get acquainted with those particular laws. IT
was not until just now, however, that I finally and truly appreciated them." He
runs a hand through his hair, and then shrugs. "Never seen her before in my life,
actually. But most of them are the same."
[RP] Arden nods, a twinkle in his
eye. "The same could be said of all women, I think." He glances around, at the now much more subdued common room. "I
think I will call it a night, ahhh..." He frowns.
"I didn't catch your name?"
[RP] Kasim nods, and laughs. "Kasim
Akylia, sir. Pleasure to make your aquaintance, Lord Torhild. I'll be staying in this inn for the forseeable future. I'd
be honored if you'd call on me sometime you're off duty, perhaps under better circumstances?"
[RP] Arden smiles broadly. "It would be a pleasure... And please,
simply 'Arden' will do." He nods
again, an economical compromise on his accustomed polite bow, and says, "Now, if you will excuse me Master Akylia, I must
be on my way. I'm afraid I have a report to compose before I retire." He wrinkles his nose, and begins to edge past Kasim towards the back of the Inn,
though he doesn't yet break eye contact.
[RP] Kasim nods and looks out the front door, where the rain is letting up. "And I need to call on some friends in town.
Until another time, then Arden."
He moves to his sword that was left at the chair, fastening it to his belt before donning his cloak and moving to exit
the building.
